"Thrilled to get behind the lens with my favourite people"
Karan Johar has unveiled his next project and it will see Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt reunite onscreen.
Titled Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, it marks Karan’s return to directing since 2016’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.
Karan had previously announced that he would be going behind the camera again for an upcoming project.
In a video that goes through his directorial journey, Karan spoke about returning to directing, saying:
“This is the beginning of a new journey and my way back home – all at once.
“It’s time to go back to my favourite place, it’s time to create some eternal love stories from behind the lens.
“A very special story, truly immersed in the roots of love and family.”
Karan announced the news on July 6, 2021, saying:
“Thrilled to get behind the lens with my favourite people in front of it!
“Presenting Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, headlined by none other than Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt and written by Ishita Moitra, Shashank Khaitan and Sumit Roy.”
He went on to introduce the rest of the cast, announcing veteran actors Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi.
“Meet the legendary stars of Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani.
“We are all thrilled to work with these veteran legends and I cannot wait to be on set with them!”

Jaya Bachchan is said to play Ranveer Singh’s grandmother while Dharmendra and Shabana are rumoured to play Alia’s grandparents.
Karan Johar’s announcement came on Ranveer’s birthday and the actor expressed his excitement.
He said: “A special announcement on my special day!
“Presenting – Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani along with my dazzling supernova Alia Bhatt, directed by the genre himself, kaleidoscopic visionary Karan Johar, and written by Ishita Moitra, Shashank Khaitan and Sumit Roy.”
In another post, Ranveer wrote: “Meet The Parivaar.
“Honoured to share the screen with these legends of Hindi cinema- Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi!”
The film is believed to be a romantic drama. On the plot, sources said:
“The film is a trademark Karan Johar romantic drama.
“All three veteran actors play a pivotal role in the film.
“Apparently, the film is going to be a mature love story and it will showcase a love triangle between the three veteran actors.
“Dharmendra, who is otherwise known as the he-man of Bollywood, will be seen playing a romantic character.
“He will be seen in an avatar which he hasn’t been seen in before.”
Filming is set to commence in September 2021 and it is expected to release sometime in 2022.
