“And after all that, you found me?”
Aamir Khan marked his 60th birthday on March 14 with a celebration surrounded by family and friends.
On the eve of his milestone, he also met with the media in Mumbai, where he introduced his girlfriend, Gauri Spratt.
Gauri, who hails from Bengaluru, currently works at Aamir Khan’s production house.
This was her first public interaction with the media, during which she spoke about their relationship.
She shared that she had only watched two of Aamir’s films—Lagaan and Dil Chahta Hai.
Explaining what drew her to the actor, she said:
“I wanted someone who was kind, a gentleman, and just caring.”
In response, Aamir joked: “And after all that, you found me?”
Aamir also spoke about his bond with Gauri, describing how he values their relationship.
He said: “I was looking for someone I can be calm with, who gives me peace. And there she was.
“I have tried to tell her how it will be, the media madness, and prepare her somewhat for it.
“She isn’t used to it. But we are hoping that you guys will be kind.”
The actor revealed that he has known Gauri for 25 years, though they lost touch until reconnecting two years ago.
He emphasised that she has no industry background and a different exposure to cinema.
Aamir shared: “She grew up in Bangalore, and her exposure was to different kinds of films and arts. So she doesn’t watch Hindi films.
“She has probably not seen much of my work, either.
“She doesn’t see me as a superstar but as a partner. But I do want her to watch Taare Zameen Par.”
Before introducing Gauri to the media, Aamir arranged for her to meet his close friends Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan at his home. He also introduced her to his family and children.
When asked if Salman should also find his own “Gauri,” Aamir quipped:
“Who will Salman search for now?”
Gauri, who is half-Tamilian and half-Irish, owns a salon in Mumbai.
She pursued a fashion course, FDA styling, and photography in London in 2004.
Aamir Khan was previously married to Reena Dutta, with whom he shares two children, Junaid and Ira. He later married filmmaker Kiran Rao, and they have a son, Azaad.
