They add colour and brashness to his films, making them all the more exciting to watch.
DESIblitz showcases 10 of Ranveer Singh’s most amazing dance sequences that are sure to set the floor ablaze.
Ainvayi Ainvayi – Band Baaja Baaraat (2010)
Kicking off our list is where it all began for Ranveer Singh.
In his debut film – Band Baaja Baaraat – he stars as Bittoo Sharma.
Meanwhile, Anushka Sharma features opposite him as Shruti Kakkar.
Both Ranveer and Anushka pour their hearts into performing ‘Ainvayi Ainvayi’.
The routine includes complicated footwork, fast movements, and sharp hand gesticulations.
Reviewing the song, Hindustan Times says:
“The fast-paced dance number with electrifying beats has a high dose of Punjabi elements, which makes it a potent mixture of dance events.”
‘Ainvayi Ainvayi’ introduces us to a masterful performer in the form of Ranveer.
Tattad Tattad – Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela (2013)
‘Tattad Tattad’ is a captivating amalgamation of high orchestration and energetic choreography.
In an official adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Ranveer stars as Ram Rajadi.
Sporting ripped jeans and a purple cloak, a bare-chested Ram dances furiously to the beats of Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
The iconic step of him ruffling his hair remains a highlight of the routine.
In 2019, a video went viral of Ranveer meeting Hollywood superstar Will Smith.
In a delightful scenario, the 83 actor teaches Will steps from ‘Tattad Tattad’.
On Medium, a writer notes the energy of the song:
“The energy is infectious and Aditya Narayan is in complete form with the vocals.”
Ranveer Singh outdoes himself in ‘Tattad Tattad’, making it an evergreen dance sequence.
Tu Ne Maari Entriyaan – Gunday (2014)
In this enthusiastic dance sequence, Ranveer (Bikram Bose) truly holds his own against Arjun Kapoor (Bala Bhattacharya).
The routine includes both the men swooning over Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Inspector Nandita Sengupta).
‘Tu Ne Maari Entriyaan’ is a perfect display of unison and teamwork, as Ranveer gives Arjun equal footing in the song but isn’t overshadowed.
Priyanka also adds colour to the song in her vivacious and sexy avatar.
Another reason why the sequence is so entertaining could be the palpable chemistry between Ranveer and Arjun.
Arjun decodes this bond and opines:
“I think it was the off-camera love and respect we had for each other because we realised how much we have in common.
“We were two people who were completely different but we just ended up getting along and working well together.
“I think we realised it while filming itself that this relationship is something special.”
This relationship translates into ‘Tu Ne Maari Entriyaan’ like a dog to a kennel.
One cannot help but groove along to the song whenever they hear it.
Malhari – Bajirao Mastani (2015)
It is not easy to stand out among an army of background dancers.
However, Ranveer accomplishes that marvellously in ‘Malhari’ from Bajirao Mastani.
In the film, he inhabits the world of the monarch Bajirao I.
‘Malhari’ allows Ranveer to show his dancing prowess in a regal and dominant setting.
Unlike his previous sequences, where it was just him and his leading lady, Ranveer must rise to the challenge of emboldening himself in a massive room with hundreds of others.
He delivers with zest and compatibility.
A fan on YouTube comments: “I can’t stop watching this. Now, I want to conquer my neighbourhood.”
Sanjay Leela Bhansali directs Bajirao Mastani. During an appearance on Koffee With Karan in 2016, Ranveer speaks about his rapport with the Heeramandi director:
“[Bhansali] extracts things from me which I didn’t know I was capable of doing.”
That is evident in ‘Malhari’, which presents Ranveer Singh at his very best.
Love Is A Dare – Befikre (2016)
After discussing dance sequences filled with flair, energy, and vigour, we come to a romantic display mirroring the elegance of a ballroom waltz.
In a remarkable showcase of intricate choreography and delicate chemistry, ‘Love Is A Dare’ features a dapper Ranveer (Dharam Gulati).
He is supported by a gorgeous Vaani Kapoor (Shyra Gill), who is adorned in a sexy red dress that presents her figure to the most attractive degree.
‘Love Is A Dare’ shows elegant footwork and beautiful chemistry all carved together in a routine that director Aditya Chopra oversees.
With a director like Aditya who is adept at romance, it is no surprise that this sequence ticks all the boxes for a charming watch.
While Befikre itself did not do well at the box office, ‘Love Is A Dare’ is still a sublime dance routine that many still enjoy.
Khalibali – Padmaavat (2018)
Ranveer Singh is a versatile actor, capable of portraying all kinds of roles with equal skill and finesse.
In Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat, he becomes the Guhila ruler Alauddin Khilji.
As Khilji, Ranveer is terrifying and obsessive. That comes through in no uncertain terms in the dance sequence of ‘Khalibali’.
In the song, Khilji is taken over by his urge to win over the beautiful queen Padmavati (Deepika Padukone).
He sings about how his heart has lost control.
Ranveer encapsulates Khilji’s darkness in the dance sequence, embracing the character’s demented thinking.
The routine also requires brazen and animalistic movements and facial expressions. Ranveer nails all of these.
A fan of the song appreciates Ranveer’s emotions:
“Greed, lust, anger, selfishness, defeat, anything that comes in your way.
“All these emotions are conveyed just with his eyes.
“That is what makes him a monster.”
The dance in ‘Khalibali’ is a blunt reminder of the ruthlessness of Khilji, giving Ranveer one of his most iconic acts.
Aala Re Aala – Simmba (2018)
As Ranveer marks his first foray into Rohit Shetty’s popular Cop Universe, he dons the uniform of Inspector Sangram ‘Simmba’ Bhalerao.
Surrounded by saree-clad women, Ranveer embraces his charismatic side once again as he goes full force into the dance routine.
Admittedly, ‘Aala Re Aala’ has relatively simple steps, but it is a testament to Ranveer’s expertise that he grabs attention even with the simpler aspects.
Praising the song, Times of India remarks: “The song is packed with peppy beats that are sure to make you groove instantly.
“The song seems to be the introductory track crafted especially for Ranveer Singh’s entry.
“If that is so, then Rohit Shetty has played the card right.”
Rohit asserts that he will continue to work with the actor.
He explains: “This collaboration will go for years and years.
“[Ranveer is] great energy, great actor and a good human being which is most important.”
With Ranveer set to reprise his role from Simmba in Rohit’s upcoming Singham Again, fans are awaiting more breathtaking dance sequences featuring the dynamic police officer.
Current Laga Re – Cirkus (2022)
This rigorous dance sequence features Ranveer (Roy Chauhan/Roy Shenoy) with his real-life wife Deepika Padukone, who appears in a cameo.
The beloved couple assess what their fans love and perform with their chemistry and romance intact.
Deepika is a marvellous performer, but Ranveer matches her in every sense of the word.
Jumping, hopping, and clapping are some of the key components of the routine.
Above all, what works for ‘Current Laga Re’ is that the pair do not appear to be thinking. They just enjoy the dance.
Writing on X, a fan comments on Ranveer and Deepika’s performance:
“Deepika and Ranveer are electrifying.”
Unfortunately, Cirkus did not do well as a film.
However, one thing is for certain – ‘Current Laga Re’ has proven to be a hit.
Ranveer’s dance contributes massively to that.
Such a Heartthrob Ji – Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023)
Fans of Ranveer Singh continue to be bowled over by his quirky yet powerful performance as Rocky Randhawa in Karan Johar’s family drama.
Rocky is a womaniser who constantly catches female eyes.
‘Such A Heartthrob Ji’ is the opening number of the film. It features Rocky shaking a leg in a club.
Janhvi Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan, and Ananya Panday all make cameo appearances as Rocky’s girlfriends in the song.
The sequence illustrates the fabulous eccentricity of the character.
Ranveer delves into his reaction upon hearing the song:
“As soon as the song starts, about 30 seconds in, you’re like, ‘Alright!’
“It was a blast to shoot. Everybody did an astounding job.”
Janhvi echoes this sentiment adding: “I was so nervous. Ranveer’s energy is so contagious that I had a blast.”
The contagious energy spreads through the sequence and the entire film for that matter.
Complimenting Ranveer’s star power, ‘Such A Heartthrob Ji’ is an ode to Rocky Randhawa.
Dola Re Dola – Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023)
Continuing with the excellent film that is Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, we come to a unique sequence that intertwines kathak with acceptance.
Though not an official part of the film’s soundtrack, the dance routine is a refreshing take on the chartbuster from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas (2002).
The new ‘Dola Re Dola’ presents Rocky Randhawa (played by Ranveer) showcasing his kathak skills with Chandon Chatterjee (Tota Roy Chowdhury).
Much to the dismay of their audience, the sequence is a unique blend of imagination and artistry.
Thriving on themes of acceptance and equality, it is refreshing to see men in a kathak routine in such an unabashed manner.
Director Karan Johar talks about the sequence. He reveals: “It’s about things that I believed in personally.
“As a child, I was very effeminate and I used to dance in my room to Hindi film songs.
“My dad thought it was great. He used to see me dance on ‘Dafli Waale‘ and I used to do the Jaya Prada part.
“My father used to watch and clap.”
Karan’s recollections aptly describe the importance of acceptance that is captured beautifully in ‘Dola Re Dola,’ which is in turn performed splendidly by Ranveer.
There is no denying that Ranveer Singh is a great actor.
However, he is also a magnificent dancer, with charisma and star quality embedded in every fibre of his being.
He brings life to these dance sequences that inspire many to get up and groove with him.
This makes him an entertainer like no other.
So, next time you hear some of these songs, be sure to shake a leg and embrace the extraordinary dancer that is Ranveer Singh.
