What is the purpose of this role?
To maintain existing electrical systems and undertake new installations on the M48 Severn Bridge, M4 Prince of Wales Bridge and M5 Avonmouth Bridge and their associated plant, workshops and buildings.
What will this role involve?
Responsibility for one Electricians Mate / Apprentice
Electrical Maintenance of existing systems
New installations
Carry out or assist with the reactive maintenance and repairs of power / lighting and other electrical installations installations and associated fittings in accordance with:
BS7671:2018
ASLEC and IEE 17th Edition wiring regulations
Carry out the provision of temporary power and lighting supplies as directed
Carry out maintenance of navigational lighting and fog warning installations and equipment
Attend to routine street lighting faults
Diagnose and replace failed components
Carry out programmed maintenance of access gantries, access cradles and other access equipment
Carry out reactive repairs and maintenance of the major plant and equipment on all three structures
Carry out maintenance of security systems
Liaise with Electrical Contractors as required
Assist with ordering electrical spares and equipment in line with stock requirements
Produce reports and supporting information in respect of electrical maintenance and inspection / investigation and tests
Assist in writing electrical maintenance procedures, task sheets and risk assessments
Assist in the operation and maintenance of the High Voltage System
Carry out electrical inspection (PAT) tests and install electrical equipment
Take part in out of hours emergency services on a call out basis
Carry out other maintenance tasks as required
Record test results and work undertaken using hand held computer
Provide support to other Amey contracts as required or directed
What are we looking for?
- Clean Driving Licence (Category D1 Driving Licence desirable)
- City & Guilds Part 2 or equivalent in Electrical Installation works
- City & Guilds 2391 Electrical Inspection and Testing desirable
- Able to work at significant heights of up to and beyond 12 metres
- 17th Edition desirable Certification for Electrical testing
- ASLEC Competency Portfolio Good
- All round project management knowledge
- Manual work involving an element of hand excavation
- Experience of street lighting Installations and associated maintenance desirable
- Excellent communication skills (verbal/written) and be able to manage stakeholders at all levels

Working with Highways England, Amey maintains the Specialist Bridge Inspection and Maintenance contract (SBIM) for Avonmouth and Severn Bridges.
Amey maintains the three major structures each with unique characteristics and structural complexities; the M5 Avonmouth Bridge spanning 1,400m, the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge which comprises of three structures, the Avon Viaduct (2,100m), Cable Stay (948m) and Gwent Viaduct (2,077m) as well as the M48 Severn Bridge, a suspension bridge, that covers 1,600m of network and has the second highest tidal range in the world at 14.5 metres.
The Amey team is responsible for the cyclic maintenance, daily structure inspection checks and safety patrols as well as responding to any incidents that impact the structural integrity of the bridges.
