We are recruiting for a Treasury Accountant / Pension Fund Accountant for our Pension Administration business area. This role can be based from our Liverpool, Birmingham, Bristol, Cheltenham, Glasgow or Leeds office (hybrid home/office working).
The Pension Administration Business was established in 1993. Our core business is the provision of services to trustees of UK occupational pension schemes DB, DC, CARE, cash balance – and we will do this as a stand-alone “admin-only” appointment or in conjunction with services provided by other Barnett Waddingham Practice Areas. This role reports into a Treasury Team Leader, Pension Fund Accounts Manager or Associate, as agreed.
Responsibilities
The Treasury team is responsible for supporting Pension Administration teams in reconciling schemes’ bank (non-pooled) accounts and investments and settling invoices. The Treasury Team is managed by a team leader and work is carried out in accordance with the Pension Administration Department’s control environment procedures, which are in place to ensure accuracy and timeliness of the services for clients.
- Demonstrates an advanced understanding of the pension systems
- Maintaining and reconciling (non-pooled) bank accounts including the review of unreconciled and miscellaneous entries
- Raising payments of invoices
- Reconciling complex investment funds including segregated investments
- Assists with the preparation of Expenditure Reports
- Ensures our work management system, Taskstream, is used effectively and timesheets are updated correctly and regularly
- Provides financial management information for clients
- Maintains effective client relationships with trustees and other stakeholders
- Works independently and manages own workload according to business priorities
- Recommends more efficient and effective ways of working
- Ensures all client (internal and external) feedback is processed in accordance with Pension Administration’s procedures
- A willingness to make progress towards further professional qualifications would be a benefit; however, proven experience in the role is more desirable than other academic achievement
- Participates in Pension Accounts Group discussions and shares ideas with others in the group
- Carries out and ensures tasks are completed in line with agreed service levels and legislative timescales
- Actively demonstrates an ability to solve problems in a rational manner, identifying potential problems and seeking to resolve them before they develop further
- Demonstrates a clear understanding that procedures, practices and systems are maintained and developed to support the accounts services and comply with Barnett Waddingham’s AAF requirements and Business Management System
- Supports effective team working, is willing to ask others for support and shares knowledge to assist with the development of colleagues through coaching and training
- Supports junior members of the team in their personal development and improves their knowledge and understanding of processes and pension systems; provides continuous feedback
- Participates in the design and delivery of training relating to the pension systems
- Assist in the managing of the team’s workload, filling in for the team leader during absences.
- Provides support to internal projects and implementation work streams
- Ensures work is delivered against time/cost estimates and escalates concerns
- Any other reasonable task as advised from time-to-time

Experience/Qualifications
- GCSE Grade “5” or “C” in Mathematics and English
- A knowledge and experience of accounting in the pension industry
- A knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and in particular, Excel) to an intermediate level
- A relevant degree (for example, Finance, Accounting) is desirable but not required
- Hold, or studying towards, a professional qualification (for example the Association of Accounting Technicians) is desirable
