The definition of job security is having a job that workers know they’re not in any danger of losing any time soon.<\/p>\n

For workers, job security means that they know their job is safe and that they will not be cut, even if external issues result in layoffs.<\/p>\n

For supervisors, offering stability to direct reports will give their employees peace of mind knowing that they have a stable income, which is a big deal during uncertain times.<\/p>\n

For some people, job security means more to them than money.<\/p>\n

Why is it important for employers?<\/h2>\n

Having an employer who understands what job security means and the implications it has on staff is vital to business success.<\/p>\n

That is because job security is beneficial for employers as well as employees.<\/p>\n

Providing consistent, stable jobs to staff can help companies increase retention, attract top talent and create a positive work environment that brings out employees’ best performance.<\/p>\n

After all, secure workers can spend less time worrying about their stability or stressing over how they will pay their bills if they get laid off, and can spend more time focusing<\/a> on their work.<\/p>\n

Job security can also improve a company’s bottom line since turnover is costly.<\/p>\n

According to the Society for Human Resource Management, replacement costs can reach as high as 50% to 60% of an employee’s annual salary.<\/p>\n

However, while job stability is valuable for both employees and employers, not every worker deserves it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It is something that is earned through hard work, dedication and loyalty.<\/p>\n

Putting up with poor performance can be damaging to the team’s success. Knowing when to dismiss someone is part of running a respectable organisation.<\/p>\n

How managers can provide stability?<\/h2>\n

In many cases, it is the employer’s responsibility to obtain job security for their employees, however, some managers do not take action.<\/p>\n

There are steps to take in order to provide stable jobs for employees.<\/p>\n

  • Find their unique talents: An effective manager looks into and leverages the skills their workers have. As a result, it will help employees get noticed by company directors, which can make workers indispensable.<\/li>\n
  • Publicly praise employees: This is another way to help workers improve their visibility at the company.<\/li>\n
  • Advocate for workers during tough times: A good boss works hard to prevent their employees from being laid-off.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Across all industries, the definition of job security is the same.<\/p>\n
