My client provides a comprehensive range of services and products including engineering, design, and development, right through to manufacturing bespoke products. As a tier 1 supplier to the premium automotive sector, they are very much at the cutting edge of today’s vehicle component market.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced tooling engineer to join a growing engineering company, where you will have the opportunity to implement new tooling and processes within the Press Shop.


The role of the Manufacturing Engineer is to implement new manufacturing processes and ensure the continued reliable operation of both tooling and equipment once in production. The position includes concept design of tooling, jigs, fixtures, and assembly machines in support of these activities

The Manufacturing Engineer is also responsible for implementing enhancements driven by continuous improvement activities


Generate design concepts for the jigs, fixtures, tooling, and other equipment required to realise the designed manufacturing process with focus on metal pressing and assembly of automotive interior components

Release technical specifications that clearly communicate the performance characteristics and geometry that need to be delivered by the supplier

Obtain written evidence of feasibility approval from tooling and equipment suppliers against any defined requirement whether formal or informal

Provide CAD data and drawings to the relevant suppliers to allow commencement of designs ensuring design revisions are managed appropriately. Where necessary generate basic CAD/drawings for internally manufactured products.

Meet commitments on timing of assigned tasks

Log hours assigned to individual projects

Manage progress of suppliers in equipment/tooling delivery and lead commissioning activities

Proactively identify areas of quality risk in any area of the business and report to Management

Mark/identify tooling and equipment to customer stipulated formats

Conduct in-house repair of production equipment when tasked

Support Production Team on emergency actions required to maintain production output

Understand principles of FMEA and apply outputs to drive design and process improvements

Analysis of measured data on equipment and tooling to verify intended functionality


Time served apprentice

An engineering background with at least 4 years practical precision press shop experience

Proficient in the safe use of standard workshop machinery (Milling machines, lathes, grinders, bandsaws, linishers, etc)

Hands-on experience of metal forming using hydraulic presses and associated tool handling and maintenance

Working knowledge of Core tools is desirable (APQP, FMEA, MSA, PPAP & SPC)

Basic understanding of key GD&T principles

Conversant in 2D and 3D CAD for purposes of designing basic jigs and fixtures and tools

Proficiency in standard software tools (Windows, Explorer, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Project)

Understanding of manufacturing process relevant to the projects undertaken

Able to conduct MSA studies and draw conclusions on output

Full driving license
