Has Ranveer Singh paved the way for a metrosexual trend within the Bollywood industry?
Ranveer Singh has become the main focus for fashion in Bollywood, with his daring looks and unique styles. Setting a high standard for Bollywood fashion, Ranveer wants no more of this ‘sida sada chora’ look, its time to adapt a more edgy, sexy and wild look.
Ranveer Singh has changed the image of the typical Bollywood Romeo, the media are more focused on whom actors are dating or who they’re working with. But now Ranveer Singh has made what you are wearing or how you are wearing it the main topic of discussion.
Ranveer Singh shot to fame with the hit movie Band Baaja Baaraat (2010) directed by Maneesh Sharma which co-stared his rumored ex-lover Anushka Sharma. Since then he has become Bollywood’s most desirable bachelor.
He has made many headlines in his short career from dating mega stars such as Anushka Sharma and most recently has been linked to Deepika Padukone.
When we think about Bollywood we would never imagine that fashion for men would come in the mix, right? Well, your wrong; Ranveer Singh is changing the image of a Bollywood hunk. It is not just about the muscles and body of John Abraham or the safe boy next-door look of Ranbir Kapoor.
Ranveer has become a fashion icon in his own right, rather than going down the traditional route of the smart hair, clean shaven and smartly dressed boy that your mothers and Nani Ji would beg you to marry, he has gone completely against the grain.
When he first started his career in the hit movie Ladies vs Ricky Bahl (2011), Ranveer’s image was your typical safe Bollywood boy look. But after taking a year out due to injuries, Ranveer was ready to show the world the real him.
Lets start with his hair; when we look at all the Bollywood stars especially males, there is never really anyone who pushes boundaries style wise. But Ranveer proves that you don’t need to stay in the box. Since his comeback in 2013 he has played around with several hairstyles.
His first look was debuted in Lootera (2013) directed by Vikramaditya Motwane co-staring the sensational Sonakshi Sinha. Singh’s look was clean-shaven, whilst rocking his long swept back hair, this smooth hunk looked like something out of the 1950’s.
After the movie was released, he really pushed the boat out. He moved on to his signature ‘handle bar’ moustache that he is now so infamous for.
You will find his signature moustache being sported in his recent movies like Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013) co-staring his latest fling Deepika Padukone, and Ali Abbas Zafar’s Gunday (2014) co-staring the exotic singer Priyanka Chopra.
After working on Ram-Leela, Ranveer explained his moustache to the world: “I took a lot of effort to grow and maintain it. I would oil it every night…and now Deepika will shave it off one of these days,” he jokes.
Sadly, Ranveer had to say his goodbyes to the handle bar as he finally shaved off the look in December 2013:
“For over a year I have had this look, so I am going to miss it. Twirling the ends… it kept me doing something always.”
As well as on the big screen, off-screen, Ranveer is not scared to show his cheeky, wild and edgy side. In the September 2013 issue of India’s GQ magazine, Ranveer showcased his daring and wild look giving Robin Thicke a run for his money when it comes to wooing the ladies.
Sporting his new hair-do known as a disconnect cut which you would hardly see any other B-town actor rocking. The publication was not lying when they headlined Ranveer has gone wild, but lets not focus on the bikini model whose bottom he was drawing on!
Ranveer’s clothing was defiantly on point and varied according to his personality on the shoot. His first look reflected his professional yet cheeky lifestyle he leads with a suave suit that has a 21st century twist.
Rather than traditional shirt underneath he rocked a t-shirt with a rolled up trousers showing fashion is not about following any rules, as for footwear he matched his look with some brogues.
His second look made for a night out on town matched perfectly with this season’s trend, a velvet-patterned blazer showing some skin, again sticking to this season trends a patterned printed tie.
Men, we all know we hate dressing up right? But we also hate being nagged by the ladies for not dressing up! Ranveer cleverly demonstrates you can be comfortable yet fashionable at the same time.
His causal look is so simple and basic yet looks very fashion forward. Make a statement just like Ranveer does; rock a statement t-shirt with some jeans and as for accessories, adding a hat or a beanie would definitely make your casual look a bit more fashion forward.
Ranveer Singh’s look does not fit into a category. If it was to be defined, it would perhaps be called chameleon; trendy and changeable.
He obtains a particular look and makes it his own. From his hipster look where he can rock a bowler hat, waistcoat, and jeans; to his Milan fashion model look, slicked back hair, suit and tie.
Ranveer’s most eye-catching look for us at DESIblitz is his appearance On The Front Row show with Anupama Chopra. In his interview on the show, Ranveer proved pushing the fashion boundaries works for him.
He rocked a high fashion Milan-esque leather suit match with kolhapuris chapals.
Any other star in his place would have opted for smart loafers or a traditional pair of shoes. He managed to fuse the urban look with his rural roots – something that very few can do successfully.
Has Ranveer Singh paved the way for a metrosexual trend within the Bollywood industry? Maybe we will see more actors following in his footsteps and pushing the boundaries.
Ranveer Singh has definitely made a name for himself as the prototype for the new Bollywood hero.
