Preity Zinta is officially back on the big screen in her new film, Ishkq in Paris. Our Bollywood film reviewer, Faisal Saif provides the low-down on the story, performances, direction and music. Find out if it is one to watch or give a miss.
They say Paris is a place that makes you desperate to fall in love with your partner.
They say the most beautiful city in the entire world is Paris. What if two ordinary people (who are poles apart) meet up in Paris and share their memories together? Will they fall in love?
Akshay (played by Rhehan Malliek) and Ishkq (played by Preity Zinta) spend one night roaming on the streets of Paris. Will they fall in love? Unfortunately that doesn’t happen this time.
Ishkq is afraid of commitment and Akshay is happy to play along. So they roam around the Eiffel Tower, drink, dance, chill out and cherish the moments to the fullest, but never get around to being serious. Love is not all around for them as yet.
We eventually find out why the beautiful Ishkq is against commitment and it all starts to make sense; her French mother Marie (played by Isabella Adjani) was ditched by her Indian father (played by Shekhar Kapur) when she was just seven years old.
As a result, Ishkq hates marriage, commitment, and love. Most of all, she fears divorce.

The film has good performances by Preity Zinta, Rhehan Malliek and Isabella Adjani.

The music of the film is nothing to sing about. Except for the Salman Khan number.
Ishkq in Paris is sweet and a decent romantic film to watch. Review Scores by Faisal Saif
Preity Zinta is back in full form. She does at times remind you of ‘Naina’ from Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003). But she has played her part very well. It is a treat to watch Preity on the big screen after such a long interval.
Rhehan Malliek is very charming and wonderful in his scenes. If allowed some perfect opportunities, Rhehan Malliek is an actor for the long run.
Isabella Adjani is wonderful in an important role which is a challenge to enact on the screen. The rest of the cast are equally good.
The cinematography is extraordinary. The camera work makes you fall in love with the city more and more the longer you watch.
Editing in the first half is not up to the mark. The film (despite of being only 1hr 39 mins) looked stretched in the first hour. The production values are very good and classy.
Musically, the film has nothing to sing about except for Salman Khan’s number which keeps you hooked primarily because of the star’s celebrity following.
Director, Prem Raj has written a very good romantic script and has directed it very well. They say, executing a love story is not such an easy task.
Film makers are responsible for making you fall in love with someone again. Prem Raj does not take this love story to that level, but still he manages to bring out a decent and sweet romantic film.
Yes, you may give Ishkq in Paris a try as it won’t disappoint you in any way. But if we are talking about Love? So why just Paris? Love actually is all around.
